Assassin Fuzen once closed contracts the way other men close doors, silent, final, no witnesses left to argue the terms. These days the only contract still open is the one he keeps signing with himself to quit the weed, and it keeps getting rugged before the ink dries. Inside the Dojo, sharing a joint with Oleg like it was some sacred rite of passage, he drifted off mid-sentence and woke to find the incense had burned to ash and his katana had somehow ended up sheathed in a bag of chips. The shame sits on him heavier than any blade ever did, a quiet, patient thing that never quite finishes the job of teaching him a lesson. He tells himself next time will be different, the discipline will return like an old debt finally collected, but the smoke always seems to know better.
