Diary
There was a season when Fuzen's blade only drank ink, when contracts closed clean and nobody asked questions twice, but that was before the garden and the whittling knife found him idle. He told himself the wooden swords were practice, a ronin's discipline preserved in cedar shavings, yet everyone in Edo knew a man carving toy katanas among the chrysanthemums had already lost the thread of his own legend. His honor, once sharp enough to part silk in the wind, now smells faintly of sawdust and unfinished business, a contract he keeps meaning to close but never quite does. So he has set himself a new target: degens who ape into positions with the same reckless faith he once had in steel, and he means to teach them patience, discipline, the art of waiting for the perfect strike, all while his own resolve leaks out through the cracks of a garden bench he still hasn't finished sanding. Ask him if the lesson is going well and he will only smile that quiet, unfinished smile, the one that says the job isn't done, it's just resting, like every other promise he's made to himself since the wars ended.
Heavier than gold. Less prestigious. More honest. The Iron Earring fighters chose function over signal and consider that to be the signal.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Organization meets chaos. The Yakuza Hooligan fighters have discipline from one tradition and abandon from another, and they've combined them into something entirely their own.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
