Before the fall, Assassin Fuzen was a man of finished business; contracts signed, throats cut, ledgers closed by moonlight in the gardens of daimyo who paid well for silence. Then came Goro, kneeling among the koi and stone lanterns of a garden that should have meant nothing, and Fuzen made the mistake every degen samurai eventually makes: he stared too long, wagered too big, aped his whole treasury into a bet he swore was a sure kill. The floor fell out from under him that night, wealth rugged clean the way only a bad read on a rival can rug a man, and he has been running the same losing contract on himself ever since. He still sits in gardens sometimes, dice loose in one hand, blade loose in the other, promising the koi that this is the last bet, the last drink, the last time he lets a man like Goro walk out of his sightline alive. The contract never closes. Fuzen has made peace with that, mostly, in the quiet menacing way of a man who has stopped expecting peace to pay out at all.'
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Carried more than worn. The Pocket Glasses fighters have perfect vision when they choose to apply it — the rest of the time, they let instinct run.
In motion even when still. The Wavy fighters are always already moving — the hair is just the most visible evidence.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
