Nobody asked Igor how he earned the name Veteran. He never offers it twice. Long before the floor charts and the weed haze of the Dojo common room, there was a horse, a master, and a saddle strap Igor loosened on purpose, just enough. The fall taught the young ones something about respect, and it taught Igor something about leverage, charisma stacking quiet the way frost creeps a windowpane. He does not leave the Dojo now, not for the tournaments, not for the sake bets, not even when the others swear this is the run where he finally gets his old discipline back, because some men learn early that the room comes to you once you stop chasing it, and the rest of his life has been a losing, patient war against becoming the kind of man who needed that lesson twice.
A paper earring from the Dojo itself. Fragile. Replaceable. The fighters who wear them understand that what looks disposable can last forever.
