Diary
Igor doesn't talk about the bid for shogun, not the whole of it, only that it happened in the red light district and that he lost more than the vote that night. Men who were there say he walked in with a spine like a katana and walked out folded like a losing hand at the tables, the lanterns and the sake and the whispered promises grinding his nerve down to floor price. He'll tell you, if the room's quiet enough and you don't push, that he misses the old days on the estate, mucking stalls before dawn, a shovel in his hands and no crowd betting on whether he'd flinch. There's a discipline in shoveling poop that shogun politics never had, he says, and then he goes quiet again, jaw set, like the memory itself outranks him. He tries, some mornings, to rebuild that simple rhythm, up early, boots on, mind clear, and by noon he's aped into a dice game behind the stables instead, still chasing the calm he swears he's about to find.'
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Turns toward light. The Silken Sunflower Kimono fighters move toward what sustains them without apology or explanation.
The other Igor — the lean one, who earned the word Veteran inside the dojo rather than bringing it with him. He's never explained what it refers to, and nobody's asked twice.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Ceremony interrupted. The Disheveled Geisha fighters started something formal and ended something entirely different.
