Diary
Igor does not talk about the Emperor's Palace much, and when he does the table goes quiet, glasses lowering like it's a shrine. He put the fief on the table that night, the last real thing he owned that still smelled like the old discipline, and the dice took it the way the wars took everything else. Nobody stopped him. That's the part that stayed lodged in him, sharper than the loss itself, the way his so-called brothers just watched the floor drop out and refilled their cups. He tried, once, to sit in seiza and breathe it out, lasted maybe forty seconds before somebody handed him a joint and the moment collapsed like wet paper. Now he trains alone, drinks alone, and says he's shopping for better quality friends, though the market's thin and Igor, weathered as he is, still hasn't learned how to walk away from a bad table.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Grew things before they fought things. The Farmer clothing is the clearest record of what a fighter was before the Dojo changed them.
The other Igor — the lean one, who earned the word Veteran inside the dojo rather than bringing it with him. He's never explained what it refers to, and nobody's asked twice.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo wrote on it. The Degen Graffiti Rice Hat fighters carry the collection's mark on the highest point of their body.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
