Igor does not tell the story of Tsukiji twice, and most men only get to hear it once before the room goes quiet on its own. He was a blade for hire, hollowed out by war, until he found a geisha selling nothing but silence and good sense between the tuna stalls, and married her before the ice melted on the morning catch. She fixed what the wars broke, mostly, and he swears he has been a good man ever since, though his idea of discipline still involves three shots of sake before admitting he needs a fourth. Now he says he will teach the degens honor, patience, the old ways, and every one of them nods respectfully while he loses another hand of cards he swore he would not play. The room stays quiet when he talks. It gets loud again when he loses.
Heavier than gold. Less prestigious. More honest. The Iron Earring fighters chose function over signal and consider that to be the signal.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Soft exterior. The Puppy Kimono fighters discovered that disarming presentation is its own strategy — you stop seeing the threat until it's too late.
The other Igor — the lean one, who earned the word Veteran inside the dojo rather than bringing it with him. He's never explained what it refers to, and nobody's asked twice.

Clean but rough. The White Ruffian fighters look like they could have behaved properly and chose not to. The white makes the choice more visible.
