Igor doesn't tell the story twice. At the shrine near Kumano, he was speaking to the Old Dragon, the way you speak to something older than your grandfather's grandfather, and the arm broke before the sentence finished. Nobody saw how. He walked down the mountain steps holding the bad arm like it belonged to someone else, and by the time he reached the bottom he'd already decided how the night would end. Sake, mostly, and silence, the two things left that still listen when he talks. He knows discipline says set the bone first and mourn later, but the title Veteran was never earned by doing things in the right order, and the room still quiets when he sits down anyway.'
Whose bones? The fighter who wears them knows. They're not saying. The Finger Bones fighters operate on a level of commitment that most find uncomfortable.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
