Igor pressed his kimono flat against the dirt of Kyoto's back alley, iron in one hand, pride bleeding out the other. The bet had been simple, the kind old soldiers make when the sake runs low and the memories run loud, and simple bets cost the most. He did not flinch when the dust ground into the silk, did not curse, only watched the fabric ruin like a season he could not get back. Men who knew him from the wars say the room used to quiet when he entered, that discipline once wore his face like armor, but the years and the gambling floor have their own way of ironing a man down. Now he wants nothing louder than silence, though silence, like the kimono, does not come clean twice.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
