Diary
Before the bell even rang at the Fight Pits, Lovey Haruto dropped to one knee, palms together, and offered a prayer so sincere the whole rowdy crowd went quiet like they'd wandered into a shrine instead of a betting pit. His opponent, mid gambling-high and already counting the floor price of his winnings, just stood there blinking while Lovey thanked the ancestors, the ref, and even the guy who sold him weed the night before for calming his nerves. The bell rang and rang again and Lovey was still bowing, and by the time he looked up his shot at glory had evaporated into laughter and lost wagers all around him. He tried, as always, to promise himself next time he'd channel that old samurai focus, sharpen the blade instead of softening the room, but the promise dissolved the second someone offered him tea and a kind word to trade. Somehow, gloriously, he walked out of that pit having won nothing and lost nothing, just a free man wrapped in the strange, disarming peace of a warrior who forgot how to fight and remembered how to care.
Theology made weapon-adjacent. The Golden Jesuit Crosses fighters have a philosophy and the crosses are its badge — precise, absolute, delivered with complete conviction.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
'Haruto' — warm person. He fights with something that looks like kindness, until you realize kindness done right is the hardest discipline of all, and he never stops choosing it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
War god's spear. Divine reach. The Bishamon Yari fighters have authorization from something older than the Dojo.
