Diary
Before the shoji doors of what used to be a dojo and was now mostly a place he kept his bong and his regrets, Lovey Haruto knelt with a pair of pliers and a smile so gentle it made the pain seem almost rude for showing up. He had aped his life savings into a token called $HARMONY weeks ago, gotten rugged by dawn, and decided the only honest response to losing everything was to pull his own rotten tooth and call it discipline returning home. Between winces he sketched his master plan on the back of a losing lottery ticket, something about opening a tea house where enemies could sit across from each other and simply be kind, because kindness, unlike the floor price of anything he'd ever touched, never went to zero. He wanted a quieter life now, one measured in slow exhales of weed smoke and the soft click of a door sliding shut rather than the screech of charts falling, but quiet kept rugging him too, showing up for an hour then vanishing back into chaos. Still he knelt there, blood on his fingers and warmth in his chest, certain that a man who could forgive himself for this much foolishness could probably forgive anyone.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
'Haruto' — warm person. He fights with something that looks like kindness, until you realize kindness done right is the hardest discipline of all, and he never stops choosing it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
