Diary
Lovey Haruto once carried his blade the way he now carries a compliment, gentle, precise, meant to disarm rather than to wound, and the old dojo elders swore his bow alone could talk a man out of a fight. These days the only ronin he battles is the mamasan who has annexed his futon like she rugged the deed to it, snoring in the exact center while he perches on the edge trying to breathe affirmations into the dark. He tried candles, he tried a lullaby, he even tried offering her a hit of his good weed as a peace treaty, but she just rolled over and reclaimed more territory, the absolute floor of hospitality being tested nightly. Three sleepless weeks in, something in his sunny circuitry finally shorted, and the neighbors say they've seen him at 4 a.m. bowing to lampposts and thanking his own futon for its sacrifice like a man who has aped his last shred of sanity into kindness and gotten rugged by exhaustion instead. Still, every morning he wakes, smiles at the woman who stole his bed, and tries again to be disciplined about boundaries, a losing fight he keeps fighting with the sweetest, most doomed grin in the Dojo.
A paper earring from the Dojo itself. Fragile. Replaceable. The fighters who wear them understand that what looks disposable can last forever.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The standard-bearer. The Proud Dejen Kimono fighters represent the collection consciously — they know what they're part of and they dress accordingly.
'Haruto' — warm person. He fights with something that looks like kindness, until you realize kindness done right is the hardest discipline of all, and he never stops choosing it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
