Diary
Lovey Haruto used to believe a gentle word could disarm any blade, and for years that belief was the whole of his discipline, a quiet samurai code he wore like armor woven from patience. Then came the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, ten thousand paper suns drifting on the water, and Masumi's laugh cutting through the smoke like she already knew every soft thing he was about to say to her. He meant only kindness, an offered hand, a shared cup of plum wine, but somewhere between the second toast and the third he'd aped into her circle of gamblers and never really left, trading his sword drills for dice rolls and calling it charm. Now he still greets every degenerate at the table with the same warm sincerity, still tries to talk his own cravings down like they're frightened strangers, and still loses that argument nightly, buying one more round for men he barely knows because saying no has never once felt as kind as saying yes. He has not forgiven himself, not really, but he has found that forgiveness pours easier after the fourth drink, and lately that's the closest thing to discipline he's got.
One tooth. The whole shark is implied. The Shark Tooth fighters don't need to explain what they've overcome — they wear the evidence.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Not a garment — a record. The Battle Scars clothing is what's left after everything else was stripped away. These fighters wear their history.
'Haruto' — warm person. He fights with something that looks like kindness, until you realize kindness done right is the hardest discipline of all, and he never stops choosing it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Broad shade, broad vision. The Wide Kasa Fisherman fighters cover more ground with their hat than most cover with their plans.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
