Diary
Teary Goro used to be the kind of blade that villages named their sons after, but that was before the rice paddies, before Oleg passed him that first joint and said something about ancestors that made no sense and everything sense at once. He remembers laughing until the tears came, then the tears staying long after the laughing stopped, and somewhere in that green haze his confidence slipped quietly into the mud like a dropped coin nobody bothered chasing. Now he drills alone at dawn trying to reclaim his old stances, promising himself today's the day he floors it clean, and today's the day he instead overthinks a simple horse stance until he's just a man crying softly in a paddy field, muscle memory rugged by his own mind. He carries the memory of who he was the way he carries his fallen brothers, gently, without ceremony, because someone has to hold the weight so it doesn't drown everyone else. He wonders about the future the way you wonder about a friend who stopped texting back, hopeful, a little heartbroken, still checking his phone.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Organization ink made visible. The Black Yakuza Sleeves fighters belong to something — a code, a history — and they advertise their membership without speaking.
He carried a spear through more wars than he can count and outlived nearly every man in his line. He buried brothers by torchlight and never broke — the tears came later, all at once.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
