The heat over the old training yard sat thick as smoke, and Goro had meant the tease about Yuuki's stance as nothing more than a small kindness dressed up as an insult, the way samurai brothers used to needle each other before a fight that mattered. But the laugh caught wrong in his throat, folded into something closer to a sob, and he found himself blinking hard at the sun so no one would see a grown man's eyes go glassy over a joke about footwork.
