Diary
Under a moon so full it looked aped straight off some celestial mint, Teary Goro stood on the ridge above Iga and did what he always did when the old discipline slipped through his fingers again: he shouted, loud and useless, at shadows he could not touch. The ninjas came anyway, quiet as regret, and in the scuffle that followed he lost his nipple to a blade so quick he only felt the cold before the laugh escaped him, then the tears right behind it, same as always. He tells it now like a joke at the dojo fire, chest bared, scar shining, and halfway through the punchline his voice cracks and he has to stop and just breathe, because some floors never come back once they're gone. He still carries that night the way he carries everyone he's lost, gently, on his back, refusing to let it fall even as he swears every morning he'll meditate instead of mourn, and every morning fails by noon. Goro laughs about the nipple. Goro will never once forget it, and somewhere under the laughing there is a boy who used to be a soldier, still standing guard over a scar that never really closes.
A paper earring from the Dojo itself. Fragile. Replaceable. The fighters who wear them understand that what looks disposable can last forever.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Kept from the harvest. The Dried Straw fighters dress in what's left after everything useful has been taken — and have discovered this is plenty.
He carried a spear through more wars than he can count and outlived nearly every man in his line. He buried brothers by torchlight and never broke — the tears came later, all at once.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Movement made permanent. The Long Flowing fighters trail behind themselves in every room they enter — the hair arrives first, then the fighter.
The magical longbow. The Runed Yumi fighters inscribed power into their range weapon — the runes are the reason the arrows find what they're looking for.
