Diary
Goro challenged the dojo master right there in the onsen, steam curling off the water like incense at a funeral nobody asked him to attend, and he laughed the whole time he raised his fists because laughing was the only ceremony he had left. The old master snapped his arm with the same bored economy he used to fold a towel, and Goro went down giggling, tears streaking hot down a face already flushed from the water, apologizing to his own bone for making it do something so stupid. He tried, god he tried, to hold the discipline his sensei once drilled into him, the stillness, the breath, the bow before the strike, but the weed in his blood and the sake in his knees turned every kata into a shuffle and every shuffle into a punchline. Somebody had to carry the fallen version of himself out of that bathhouse, so he did it, cradling his own busted arm like it was a fallen brother, weeping and cackling in the same breath the way he always does. He calls it freedom now, this dumb broken wing hanging useless at his side, because grief with no ceremony left still needs a name, and free is gentler than what actually happened.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
He carried a spear through more wars than he can count and outlived nearly every man in his line. He buried brothers by torchlight and never broke — the tears came later, all at once.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo wrote on it. The Degen Graffiti Rice Hat fighters carry the collection's mark on the highest point of their body.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
