Diary
Goro had trained for that one shot at glory the way old samurai train for death, with quiet ritual and a straight spine, until the moment came inside the Dojo and his hand reached out to steady Haruto instead of striking him, disqualifying them both in a single tender, catastrophic touch. He laughed when the ref called it, the kind of laugh that cracks halfway into a sob, because some part of him had wanted exactly this, an excuse to carry someone rather than defeat them. Now he tells anyone who'll listen that all his dreams have come true, and he almost believes it between the tears, since glory was never the dream so much as being needed. He still shows up at dawn meaning to run the old forms, sword-straight and sober, but ends up sharing a joint with the guy who rugged him on a floor bet last week and calling it meditation. The samurai in him keeps trying to stand at attention, but the degen in him keeps kneeling to help someone up, and Goro, weeping and grinning, lets that be the only discipline he's got left.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
He carried a spear through more wars than he can count and outlived nearly every man in his line. He buried brothers by torchlight and never broke — the tears came later, all at once.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
In motion even when still. The Wavy fighters are always already moving — the hair is just the most visible evidence.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
