Diary
Teary Goro sat alone in his quarters the way he always did after a mission, mourning men nobody else remembered to mourn, and he decided grief needed heat, so he aped into a full bowl of wasabi like it was the last floor price he'd ever see. He laughed through the burn, tears already falling before the sting even hit, because that's just how his face works now, joy and sorrow sharing the same worn door. Somewhere between the third and fourth reckless scoop his elbow gave out entirely, a small ugly pop that felt almost funny, almost fitting, like the universe rugging him mid-ritual. He tried to hold his cup steady afterward, tried to keep the old samurai posture his sensei once drilled into him, but the arm wouldn't listen, and he wept laughing at how far discipline has drifted from him. Still, he wrapped the elbow himself, quietly, the way he wraps every fallen thing, because someone has to carry it, and it might as well be him.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The dragon lives on the body now. The Dragon Head Tattoo fighters carry their ambition on the surface — it's not hidden, and it's not a metaphor.
He carried a spear through more wars than he can count and outlived nearly every man in his line. He buried brothers by torchlight and never broke — the tears came later, all at once.
The world through affection. The Loveheart Shades fighters see everything as worth caring about — and have found this is more effective than the alternative.
Wild, electrified. The Zapachi fighters' hair moves independently and the fighter has accepted that this is appropriate.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
