Diary
Edmundo came to Kiyomizu-Dera the way he came to everything in this country, uninvited but paying close attention, a foreign-eyed guard trying to meditate his way back to the discipline he'd pawned off somewhere between the last war and the first dispensary. He was three slow breaths into finally clearing his mind when a stranger's hand aped his ass like it was a floor-priced NFT, gone before Edmundo could even reset his stance. He didn't draw steel, mostly because his old sensei's voice in his head reminded him a guard's first duty is to witness, not to swing wild in a holy place full of tourists filming vertical videos. So now he sits with his notebook instead of his blade, sober for exactly forty minutes at a time, drafting a memoir titled something like Watched Temple, Got Rugged, promising himself this is the disciplined project that finally sticks. It won't, not really, but he's loyal to the attempt the same way he's loyal to this strange dojo full of drifting ronin, and there's a dry kind of honor in failing at peace in such a specific, unrepeatable way.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for what it abandoned. The No Honor Kimono fighters gave up on the codes others follow and found that this freed them completely.
An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo's version of a mohawk. More specific, more named. The Dejen Mohawk fighters chose the Dojo's interpretation of rebellion over the generic one.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
