Diary
Edmundo came to the Dojo as an outsider and stayed as its most loyal watchman, a man who once swore his blade to discipline and now swears mostly at the vending machine, but even he has a wound that never scabbed over. It happened in the dead heat of summer, the kind that melts a samurai's resolve faster than sake, when he made the mistake of striking up conversation with Bob near the training yard. Whatever Bob said, whatever Edmundo answered, some essential piece of his self-esteem evaporated into the shimmering air and never floated back down. He still stands his post with dry-eyed vigilance, scanning for threats foreign and domestic, but every so often his gaze drifts toward Bob's corner and his jaw tightens like a man reliving a rug pull in real time. He tells the younger fighters that true discipline means never speaking to Bob in July again, then fails that very vow within the week, because some lessons, like some heatstroke, apparently need repeating.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
The Dojo itself, rendered on glass. The Dojo Graffiti fighters see everything through the collection's own aesthetic — they can't separate themselves from it.
Ancient discipline, modern retention. The Braided Samurai Ponytail fighters maintain something traditional precisely because the world keeps trying to make them let it go.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
