Diary
Edmundo had guarded richer men than himself in six countries before he ever set foot in the dojo, and he liked to say the moon over Kyoto was the first one that ever actually humbled him. On a high moon evening, wallet fat with whatever the last rug hadn't yet rugged, he caught his sandal on a market basket some vendor left like a landmine for degenerates, and down went the coin purse, the pride, and what remained of his portfolio in one long clatter. He lay there a moment, staring up at that same smug moon, and decided the universe had just done him a favor no financial advisor ever managed. Now he watches the dojo gates at night the way he used to watch baskets, loyal, sharp eyed, and broke in a way that feels suspiciously like freedom. He still tells the new recruits, in his flat foreign drawl, that discipline is just poverty with better posture, and he is, as always, only half joking.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for something specific. The Cet Kimono fighters know what they're wearing and why — the rest is for others to figure out.
An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Time made visible, flowing. Flowing Dreads fighters carry their history in motion — every lock a year, and the years are moving now.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
