Edmundo was not born to these hills, but he chose them, the way a man chooses a dojo over a bar and then spends most nights wishing he hadn't. At the Darkness Festival he threw himself into the shogun brawl with the grim loyalty of a foreigner trying too hard to belong, and came out the other side with both nipples split open like he'd wrestled a cheese grater instead of six drunk ronin. He stood watch that night anyway, blood crusting under his gi, muttering in his accented tongue about honor and ice packs in the same breath. Discipline, he told himself, meant showing up even bleeding, even laughed at, even when the other fighters called him 'Nipples' for a week straight. He looks forward to better days, mostly ones where his shirt survives the festival, but until then he keeps his post, dry-eyed and stubborn, the outsider who refuses to be rugged out of his own story.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.

An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Tied before the fight. The Green Bandana fighters have a ritual of preparation — the bandana is how they mark the transition.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
