Edmundo still dreams in the red tunnel of Fushimi's a thousand gates, the torii blurring into a thousand accusing eyes the night he chose gold over his master's back. He tells himself it was a tactical retreat, the way he tells himself a lot of things, standing watch now over a jungle that owes him no fealty and asks no questions. Here the humidity does what shame could not, wringing him out slow, and he trades his old vigil for cheap rum and rolled weed that never quite quiets the shrine bells ringing in his skull. Every dawn he vows to wake before the sun, to drill his stance like the disciplined blade he once was, and every dawn the sun finds him face down in a hammock, guarding nothing but his own hangover. Still, loyal fool that he is, he keeps his eyes on the tree line out of habit, some foreign, watchful part of him convinced that penance, like a debt collector, always finds the address eventually.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Grew things before they fought things. The Farmer clothing is the clearest record of what a fighter was before the Dojo changed them.
An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
Demon woman, half revealed. The Hannya Half Mask fighters show the monstrous half and keep the human half private.
