Diary
Edmundo came to this country a guard first, a fighter second, and a fool for a cool room third, which is how he ended up sweating through his gi in the back of a mamasan's parlor one brutal summer night, mojo evaporating faster than his resolve. He had survived ambushes and worse odds than this, yet the heat and her unimpressed eyeroll rugged him harder than any blade ever had. Ever the watchful outsider, he studied the wreckage like a man auditing his own portfolio: mojo down bad, dignity floor-priced, ego liquidated in real time. So now he tells anyone who'll listen that he's pivoting to teaching self defence, discipline first, no distractions, dojo doors locked at dusk, though the guy still can't walk past a fan or a cold drink without reliving the L. Edmundo remains loyal to the dojo, dry as ever, quietly training pupils in guard stances while privately hoping none of them ask him to demonstrate stamina.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The farmer's crown. The Rice Hat fighters carry tradition on their head without ceremony — it's just what you wear when you have work to do.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
