Now he wears the proof in bad ink, a dragon that looks more like a confused catfish, a permanent record of the night discipline stepped out for a smoke and never came back. He hasn't slept in seven days, not from guilt exactly, more from the itch of standing sentry over a home that isn't his anymore, still pacing the perimeter of a fief he no longer owns out of sheer foreign stubbornness. Loyalty, he mutters to no one, doesn't check the deed before it clocks in.”
