Diary
Edmundo was never born to any dojo, just wandered into the story like a foreigner who overstays his visa and somehow becomes the landlord, and the samurai let him stay because he watched the tree line like it owed him money. In the shaman's lair, half blind from the incense and the last of somebody's harvest still lingering in the air, he carved blade after blade out of jungle wood, each one uglier and deadlier than the last, until men started whispering his name like a warning label. He tells anyone who'll listen that discipline is just watching closely and not blinking, then immediately gets rugged by his own eyelids after two bong rips and a nap he swears was meditation. Legend made, debts to no dojo owed, he retreated back into the jungle he chose on purpose, the only outsider who guards a gate nobody asked him to guard, dry-eyed and grinning like he's in on a joke the trees haven't heard yet. He still whittles at night, mostly out of habit, partly because floor price on peace of mind never really recovered after the wars ended.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Not quite there yet. The Warlock Wannabe fighters are in the process of becoming something more — and the gap between aspiration and arrival is where they live.
An old foreign word for wealth and protection stitched together. He guards something, though what changes depending on who's asking and how much they've had to drink.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Named for sensation. The Splitting Axe Ache fighters' hair is named for how their opponents feel after they're done.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
