Diary
They still call him The Veteran, though half the dojo doesn't know why and Igor has never once explained it, letting the silence do the talking for him. What they do know is the story that circulates like cheap sake: sparring day, some superior officer barking corrections one too many times, and Igor answering with his fists instead of his mouth, a decision that ended one career and quietly began another. He does not regret it, not out loud, though there's a discipline in him still, buried under years of dive-bar shogi and gambling debts he pays in favors instead of coin, that whispers he could've done it cleaner, could've done it better. Now he trains alone at dawn most days, or tries to, until the weed and the fog of last night's losses at the tables pull him back under the blanket for another hour. The room quiets when he talks because he says little and means all of it, and somewhere under the rust and the vice, the old soldier is still trying to prove he can do better, one botched sunrise at a time.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
Every cracked card. White is the beginner's belt, and torn is how the crack left it, border and all: a White card is never printed. A repair earns Blue.
The other Igor — the lean one, who earned the word Veteran inside the dojo rather than bringing it with him. He's never explained what it refers to, and nobody's asked twice.
The standard-bearer. The Proud Dejen Kimono fighters represent the collection consciously — they know what they're part of and they dress accordingly.
The world through affection. The Loveheart Shades fighters see everything as worth caring about — and have found this is more effective than the alternative.
Organization meets chaos. The Yakuza Hooligan fighters have discipline from one tradition and abandon from another, and they've combined them into something entirely their own.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,468 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Stars on a strap. The Shuriken fighters carry more throwing stars than they will ever throw, because running out mid-fight is the one thing they still fear.
